Welcome!

Inspired by the cafés, bars and bistros of France and old-world Europe, The Sitting Room opened its doors in December of 1998 and has become one of Seattle's most distinctive and charming evening destinations.

Come experience our stylish, unhurried European ambiance where you will find great company, wonderful menu items and no televisions. Chic surrounds and warm countryside lighting offer a relaxing atmosphere. Sink into the antique sofa or sit at the authentic zinc bar with one of our signature fresh-herb or fruit cocktails. We also offer a carefully chosen selection of international wines, beers, premium spirits and light cuisine fare.

The candle-lit bistro tables provide a perfect setting for an intimate evening for two, or for getting together with friends. Art Nouveau light fixtures and music from around the globe create an atmosphere for great times in a place where you can hear the whispers of your companion or join in the raucous laughter and vibrant conversation with friends at the next table. During warmer days of Spring, Summer and Autumn our entire front wall opens up to the patio for a classic Seattle outdoor experience.

Nestled in the theater district in Uptown Queen Anne, we are conveniently located within walking distance to the Seattle Repertory, Intiman, Opera, Ballet, Symphony, and Seattle Center and Key Arena events. We enjoy offering our libations for all pre and post On The Boards shows — Seattle's premier contemporary performing arts theater located upstairs from The Sitting Room.

We are at 108 West Roy Street near the bottom of Queen Anne hill ‐ also known as Uptown Queen Anne. We are conveniently located near many great theaters, performance halls and other Seattle Center attractions. Join us before or after a game or concert at Key Arena, pre or post shows for the Opera or Ballet at McCaw Hall, plays at The Intiman and Seattle Repertory theaters, a movie at the Uptown, or shows at On The Boards. Or just come and hang out with us for the whole evening ‐ we look forward to seeing you soon!

“This is one of my FAVORITE places to have drinks with friends. The location in the amazingly adorable Queen Anne area makes it the perfect spot to meet up. The drinks are always good (my personal favorite is the Sage Greyhound) and the service is untouchable as far as bars go. The interior is so cozy you feel like you're sitting in someone's living room having an intimate talk, no matter how many people are around you (it's always packed).”

“The Sitting Room manages to turn a space in fairly plain and unexciting building into a bar that feels like it was plucked out of 1940s Paris, or so I like to tell myself. Everything about the atmosphere is sexy and awesome ‐ the dim lighting, the yellow walls, the section with vintage furniture, the french posters (especially a fan of the "la vache qui rit" one), and the light up globe at the end of the bar.”

“I come here to drink, to bask in the company of friends, to talk (which can be difficult sometimes - it's so loud inside!), and then drink some more. I've only eaten here once, don't like to dull the effects of the alcohool too much ;), and found the cheese plate and the lox (with capers!) to be an excellent nibbling experience. Try the Tiramisu cocktail if you need a chocolate fix. Icily delightful.”

The Stranger

“Located just around the corner from perf-art hotspot On the Boards at the bottom of Queen Anne hill, the Sitting Room is a sweetly laid-back Euro-bistro charmer. During happy hour things get even sweeter, with discounted hors d'oeuvres, well drinks, draught beer, and house wine. Select an ambitious cocktail (citrus Lillet!), plop yourself down on a gorgeous antique sofa, and treat yourself to some temporarily thrifty edible delights, from Salumi signature salami to the amazing European cheese plate.”

“Intimate tables and a well-worn sofa and chairs blur the lines between cafe and living room at this eminently comfortable Queen Anne bar. Gently glowing lamps cast shadows across the burgundy cement floors and golden walls. Regulars drink wine and eat snacks at the zinc-top bar, or settle in with friends at tables for signature cocktails and affordable dinner plates. The front window, an old garage door, is thrown open on sunny days--enjoy the breeze and pretend you're in Paris.”

Gayot Review

“Relax on an antique sofa, unwind at the elegant zinc bar or get cozy at a candlelit bistro table in this intimate café on lower Queen Anne that's fine for a late-night rendezvous or after-work sojourn. The stylish and romantic ambience has classy European overtones---a lovely change from today's sleek, hard-edged bars. Wine fans will enjoy the emphasis on French vintages---both red and white---with about 15 pours by the glass to accompany the bottle offerings. Sophisticated, creative cocktails are also an option, along with apéritifs. Despite the lack of a full dinner menu, it's easy to make a satisfying repast out of salads, pork pâté, daily soups, caponata or charcuterie. The proximity to Seattle Center's theaters makes the venue popular with thespians before and after the curtain, or for walkers who want a reward after strolling down Queen Anne hill.”

“The very low, very sexy orange lighting at The Sitting Room makes it a perfect spot for a secret retreat with your sweetie. Lean in close and coo over candlelight at your table, or discreetly hunker down next to one another on the banquette. Be sure to bring your appetite: The food is excellent — the pâté au poivre noir and the artisan cheese plate are our faves — and the wines are divine.”

“This is one chewy martini. The Queen Anne gathering place shakes up English cucumber puree with lemon juice and a dose Hendrick’s gin or Ketel One vodka for a drink so refreshing, the potency sneaks up on you”

“European cheese heads can get their fix at The Sitting Room, where, during happy hour the bar’s first-rate European cheese plate is $6. The three cheese offerings on the plate change periodically; when we last went, pieces of D’Affinois and Tomme de Savoie-French cow’s milk cheeses and wine-cured goat’s milk cheese from Spain, were served. Pair your plate with a glass of Riesling or Minvervois.”

“…we were also looking into Seattle's top five soups-which, in our not-so-humble opinion, come from […] The Sitting Room.”

“Everything about this cozy spot encourages ths patrons to slow down and smell the roses (or Brie, organic Pinot Grigio, or free-range country pate’). The food, like the pace, is tres European: hors d’oeuvres like Salumi salami and cornichons, or bruschetta topped with savory items like goat cheese, quince paste and toasted pecans. Settle down with some European smoked salmon, a glass of red wine, and a novel, and expect not to be disturbed for hours.”

“With a casual, Euro-bistro vibe, this tucked-away bar in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood is the perfect spot for a drink before or after a show at On the Boards next door. It's a fun find for anyone exploring this part of town. Fresh herb cocktails are the specialty. 3 Stars”
